You have Windows XP on a bootable CD but lack the original installation media. You're considering getting a burnable CD or using an existing bootable disc with a product key, just to run older games in DOS or DoBox. You're not planning to use the PC for regular daily tasks.

I didn't have a deadline for the project.

I genuinely require assistance—I've been looking through forums for a week and still haven't found anything. Now I'm feeling really frustrated.

XP doesn't require a second media disc. It isn't needed except for certain editions. Your comment doesn't make sense.

That seems strange. My parents purchased it from Microsoft years ago to upgrade their Windows 2000 PC, and it worked. Now instead of needing a product key, it requests a media CD from multiple hard drives. I even visited a nearby PC shop; they admitted to having one, though they hadn’t owned any in years. They also mentioned they had a Windows Vista media CD available.

I'm planning to share this again tomorrow, maybe more folks will see it. Spazi, I'll keep the title chill and relaxed.

You have Windows XP Media Center Edition. That's what the 2nd disc is for. It installs Windows Media Center. Later versions included it with the OS, so no 2nd disc was needed. I would look to see if you can download it somewhere.

your installation disc might lack the driver needed to recognize the media or you could be using an upgrade disc that isn't a complete installation disc. Legitimately, getting XP for a home user is very limited unless you obtain a second-hand copy.
