Recently I purchased a new PC featuring an i9 9900 processor, a Gigabyte B365M DS3H M.2 SSD, and I’m feeling a bit uninspired with the storage capacity. I’m considering upgrading to an MSI MAG B365M M.2 for a better appearance. Additionally, I don’t have a GPU due to cost and availability issues in Turkey. Could you share any technical benefits of this motherboard? Also, what GPU would pair best with the i9 9900, the 4x8 2666 HyperX Fury, and a 650W PSU? The 1650 model seems to be the lowest I can afford at the moment.
This setup is pretty unusual. The combined specs hit a major bottleneck. Consider upgrading to 2x8GB RAM and a GPU with at least 1660 MHz for better performance. Any model over 120 USD works fine.
It’s pretty basic. To boost appearance, consider adding RGB or changing the case. Why would someone do this when he already has 4x8GB RAM at 2666? The performance should be the limit what B365 offers.
I wouldn't bother upgrading that motherboard, there really isn't any reason to do so. Yes, it does look a little better and might be built slightly better, but it's a B- series chipset, so no overclocking, and therefore no real need for a higher end board unless you need features from the higher end ones (which you often don't). As for the GPU, with a 9900, I'd shoot for something like a 3060 or 3060 Ti, but those cards are unobtanium. It would probably be a good idea to just use the iGPU until you either find a guy who doesn't realize how much something is selling for on Craigslist or equivalent (they aren't very common anymore, but they do exist), or score a card at MSRP
I'm facing a tough situation here. I can't even purchase a 20th-gen model, I don't like RGB, and I'm not into gaming much—just playing Stranded Deep in the med settings max. I bought an i9-9900 with these specs, but it's mainly for basic desktop tasks and some light games like Brawlhalla, Besiege, and Terraria for its appearance. I plan to add a liquid cooler later, but not yet.
When I built this system, my current motherboard was set for an 8th-gen CPU. It kept restarting and flashing lights on the PC. There was an 8th-gen i5 on another ASUS board, and we changed the CPU and tried booting again. Eventually, it worked when I put the i9 back in. That's why I'm worried—if I buy something similar and it defaults to an 8th-gen setup, I won't be able to change it to 9th-gen because of pandemic restrictions. That's why I'm seeking advice.
In short, I don't need high performance; just stability and a decent look.
