Specs: CPU is Ryzen 9 3900x, motherboard ASUS X570 TUF-PLUS, GPU is ASUS RTX 3080 TUF OC, storage includes 500GB Kingston A2000 M.2 NVME SSD (installed on M.2_1), plus an additional 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SATA SSD. No other PCIe devices connected, no plans to add more soon. You're considering adding a 2TB XPG SX8200 Pro NVME SSD. Will your GPU still run at 16X speed?

The GPU maintains performance at X16, while the M.2 slot operates via the chipset tracks.

Yes. The X570 chipset includes additional PCIe lanes beyond the 24 provided by the CPU, offering more connectivity options.

Primarily there are CPU sockets and chipset tracks. The B550 chipset supports Gen 3, while the X570 offers Gen 4, which explains why you can have multiple M.2 Gen 4 slots in the X570.

I’m fine with the system running at Gen 3 performance since the NVME SSD I plan to purchase is also Gen 3. My main concern is that it could deplete the PCIe lanes, potentially limiting my GPU’s maximum speed to 8x.

you won't need a separate GPU. it will use a 16-gen 4 lanes GPU, with an M.2 slot handling the remaining 4-gen 4 lanes from the CPU, plus the option to add another Gen 4 M.2 via the chipset lanes.

Sure! That sounds great. I'll place the order for the 2TB XPG SX8200 Pro right away!

Adata is altering the NAND chips in the M.2 slot, switching to more expensive and slower ones, which significantly degrades performance compared to earlier reviews:

Not really any other suggestions except Samsung products. Their SSDs cost a lot more in Japan. Edit: I lean toward Gen 3 TLC M.2 NVMe drives. Updated Feb 18, 2021 by takedadshiro

The MP510 might be a good option. Check prices in Japan or online for details. Since you're in Kuwait, local availability could vary.
