Hello! I used my PC with an RTX 3060 and moved to a RTX 4090. I bought it from a marketplace listing as new but unused. Now I'm facing some issues starting up after the upgrade. Here are my details (you'll notice they shift):

- Graphics card: RTX 4090
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z590 GAMING X
- CPU: Intel i5-11600K
- OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with nvidia driver 580 installed
- Power supply: New Be Quiet 12VHPWR cable
- PSU: Supports 850W, but I'm not sure if it's enough under heavy use

I tried connecting the new power cable to PCIe1 and PCIe3, but nothing changed. The fan spins, RGB lights up, but the system still boots with the old GPU. When I swapped the GPU, it worked fine. After a few attempts, the VGA light came back on, but it kept freezing after heavy loads. I checked the power supply, and even after removing it overnight, the issue persisted.

I suspect the problem might be with the PSU or possibly the GPU under stress. The BIOS was up to date, and resizing the boot menu helped temporarily. But the main concern seems to be power delivery or thermal issues. I'm still trying to figure out what's causing the freeze.

This processor doesn't match the board's specifications—it shouldn't even be able to install correctly

Apologies for the mistake. The processor is an i5-13500 with LGA1700 socket.

Updated the bios (GPU unplugged) and set integrated GPU as primary. Booting with 4090 works now. Appears in nvidia-smi but freezing persists during tests. Loaded stats under heavy use; no obvious faults. Stays around 400W, peaking at 420W. Temp stays near 70°C – previous tests ran without limits. Cutting power to 300W still causes extreme slowness after minutes. nvidia-smi loads in about a minute but doesn’t show any PCI errors. Odd situation overall.
