Upgrading the System
Upgrading the System
Hello everyone, I’m considering an upgrade using the components I already have and am looking for the optimal setup for both VR experiences and regular gaming. I have two processors and two boards: one MSI H61M-P23 (B3) and another Intel S1200BTL. The processors are an i7-2600 and a Xeon E3-1230 V2, with matching RAM and a Radeon RX480 graphics card. The MSI board supports non-ECC RAM, which I already own, while the Intel board uses ECC memory but offers SATA 3 ports. From testing, the Xeon performed slightly better in benchmarks, though it’s a server CPU. Both will run with at least 16GB to 32GB of RAM and the same graphics card. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!
You should choose the i7 2600 over the Xeon E3-1230 since it offers more cache and a higher clock speed. A Sata 3 PCI-E 1x card is affordable, around ten dollars or less. That’s not a big problem. GL and have fun!
Thank you for your response. I thought the 2600 might be a better option, though the benchmark made me question it. Unfortunately, because the graphics card occupies one of the slots, I don’t have space for another SATA 3 card after the others are installed. I could rearrange the boards to free up a PCI slot and a SATA 3, but I’m unsure if it’s worth the effort. Edit: I also didn’t mention in my first post that the system uses a SATA SSD for the boot drive.
