Hey there, it seems your old motherboard has stopped working, so I decided to upgrade to a newer CPU. For quick performance, I chose a 12600k with an MSI PRO z690-a. I’m aware the BIOS won’t work with this model, and I’ve already updated it using the instructions on MSI’s site. The process went through FAT32 formatting and the BIOS flash button lit up red before turning off. That’s the only signal I’ve seen indicating power was received. Right now, everything is set up on the case: CPU, temporary AIO cooler, RAM installed. I’ve tried booting with my GTX 1080 and with the built-in graphics, but it doesn’t work at all. I’ve used a screwdriver to try turning it on and even plugged in the power button, but nothing happens. Since this isn’t an issue I’ve faced before, I’m unsure what to do next. I have another functional PC available, but I’d rather not disassemble my current build if possible. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated—please feel free to reach out on Discord (melanie#0666). Thanks!

Hey there! It looks like your setup might be in trouble. The best course of action is to reach out to support and let them know about the BIOS flash failure. If they can’t assist, they might be able to help you recover or replace it. If that doesn’t work, they should guide you through the return process.

To be certain, double-check all connections and ensure the PC boots after flashing. Review the instructions carefully and consider restarting the system after installation. If issues persist, try resetting the BIOS or consulting additional support resources.

Didn't it fail before you connected? If everything was set right, the board was definitely dead. A Z690 should handle a 12600k without needing an update. It was released in the 12th generation.

there was a compatibility concern and it seems the BIOS on PCpartpicker might need updating. unless there’s an error, could you confirm if this was the actual issue? i want to avoid delays in getting a functional computer. it’s also important to consider that I’m moving RAM and GPU from my old system, which could impact performance. additionally, my M.2 slot isn’t present, so I’ll be booting from the old SSD.

MSI is my motherboard brand, actually the MSI PRO zXXX-a is my preferred choice, and I remember they offered express RMA where they'd verify the charge on your card before sending a replacement, then return the charge once the part arrives. Since it's my board line, I'm certain there are EZ Debug lights in the top right corner that illuminate to show the POST order. If you don't see them at all, the board is likely dead.

I actually have four of those motherboards set up at home, plus three more on someone else's devices.

I had an issue too, so that likely isn't something I can do. Appreciate the effort, but honestly, it seems like I'm not suited for this.

Reach out to their customer support via phone—they’re very helpful. Discover the options available for your needs. In the worst scenario, they might process a delayed return and leave you without any extra time. Stay polite and courteous; it helps you succeed in this situation.
