Upgrading ram in a prebuilt system
I currently possess 8GB of RAM installed in my prebuilt system (HP Pavilion 580-015NA). The stick appears to be DDR4-2400, likely from Kingston though the HP logo is also visible. I'm curious if upgrading to 16GB DDR4-2400 is feasible by purchasing another module. Would mixing RAM sticks from different manufacturers cause compatibility problems? Assuming you get a compatible module with matching specifications, it should work fine.
Consider a Kingston model that fits your needs—no requirement for a special HP stick. If it works, you should probably get dual-channel access. Another choice is purchasing a 2x8GB bundle and disposing of the single unit. You might also check popular online platforms for a refurbished version, perhaps someone who already swapped their RAM.
This unit is clearly a Kingston model. The other manufacturer (HP) is simply using their branding on the RAM, probably for tracking inventory during stock arrivals and PC assembly.
