I aimed to upgrade my i5 4440 to boost performance and prevent freezing during gameplay. FPS is solid, but I don’t play high-end graphics titles. I have two graphics cards—GTX and Intel HD 4600 integrated. Here are my details.

The CPU can't be overclocked. Even then, it wouldn't solve the issue of games freezing.

You might turn on XMP in your BIOS settings. This can slightly boost your processor speed. This question asks what that involves and whether your system is set up for it. The game may need time to launch, and having your games on an SSD could help.

Hey there! Joining non-K SKUs isn’t really worth it. You can put in a lot of effort, but there’s a high chance you’ll run into problems. If you succeed, you might earn a 5% speed increase. For extra boosts, consider the $50 4770—just be ready to handle a cooler tower to stay cool. And remember, if you’re not already doing it, swapping out the CPU thermal paste is probably a good idea.

So initially, thank you all for your responses. I was checking the web looking for ways to optimize my CPU performance and came across a forum comment that suggested possible solutions even for non-K systems. However, I hesitated before sharing it and instead posted my own thoughts. I’m not sure if enabling XMP for minor boosts is wise given my concerns. My system boots up in about 1.5 minutes, which seems fine, but launching Minecraft makes it difficult to access apps like Google or Discord. Once Minecraft finishes, my PC runs smoothly—no lag while watching tutorials, chatting with friends, or saving screenshots. Everything works well on public servers or with friends. I play many games, including Fallout 4, without issues. Perhaps the real issue is excessive RAM allocation for Minecraft? Also, replacing the thermal paste with OddOod might be unnecessary. I can manage this with some research and skills, but why should I do it when I already have a good setup? Thanks for your help!

It's the RAM. Eight gigabytes is sufficient for gaming, yet my other machine handles it just fine. With eight gigabytes of RAM, while running Minecraft, I can really open up many applications. Upgrading to more RAM and a better GPU will boost FPS, not just anything else.

Thanks, I’ll consider upgrading my GPU and possibly getting more RAM.

Launch Task Manager to check CPU, RAM, and GPU usage—MSI Afterburner works best for this. It’s likely RAM is nearly empty or very low, while the CPU isn’t improving with more power.

If you disable all other services and confirm Chrome and Discord aren’t active, we suggest a minimum of 16GB RAM. This ensures you won’t need to shut down many applications just to allocate enough memory for running tasks.
