Upgrading pc around 3090
Hello, I'm trying to modernize my PC with the latest specs: PCIe 5, DDR5, ATX 3.0, AM5, etc. Most online sources suggest a Ryzen 7 5800 X3D in an AM4 socket, which matches benchmark results similar to the Ryzen 5 7600 X. I'm curious if the Ryzen 5 7600 X is a suitable budget-friendly AM5 option for pairing with an RTX 3090. Please let me know if there are any mistakes—I'm not fluent in English. Feel free to share more details if you'd like. Cheers!
At a 3090 level, choosing 7700(X) would be a solid pick, and a 6-core CPU is definitely the minimum needed for a mid-range gaming setup.
It won't be worth the effort to chase performance when 4090 only nearly fills the 3.0x16 slot. We're still several years from reaching 5.0x16 saturation on consumer GPUs. The 5th generation NVMe might make sense for heavy IO operations like high-res video editing, but beyond that the difference is minimal—just having PCIe lanes ensures smooth Windows boot and gaming, including those with DirectStorage. Plus, it adds a nice +1 to your setup if you can afford it. An 8/16 frame time boost would definitely stand out.
PCIe 5.0 seems outdated, and the suggested CPU core count for a 3090 is just 8. What do you think of alternatives? Here are some options: ASUS PRIME X670-P, Wi-Fi AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Kingston Fury Beast Black EXPO 32GB, Samsung 980 Pro 1TB, Cooler Master MWE 1250W V2, 80+ Gold ATX. Appreciate the feedback!
