Upgrading my system
Upgrading my system
Hi
My graphics card is no longer working and I’m looking to upgrade. I want to use this opportunity to switch to a better processor. My current system includes:
Ryzen 5 5600xAsus
B550-F ROG strix
Corsair vengeance 32go of 3600mhz
RTX 2070 - Dead
Seasonic 520 PSU
Noctua NH-U12 + fans
What upgrades would you suggest for this setup?
The 5700x3d is the simpler choice, especially if this is for gaming. Additionally, a more recent and powerful PSU with better wattage would be ideal. Your current setup is a bit inadequate in both aspects.
Do you have a monitor resolution in mind? That will help with the suggestions.
Are your games restricted by the CPU or by graphics capabilities? High-performance action titles demand powerful graphics cards, and also require higher resolutions. Games like Sims, MMOs, and strategy titles are more demanding on the CPU, especially when running single-threaded. It appears that with a dead GPU, you should replace it first. Choose a card that offers a substantial upgrade; otherwise, you might not achieve the expected results. Here is Tom's GPU hierarchy chart: I believe cards in the 3070 or 4060 range would be suitable. You’ll likely also need a more robust power supply. Don’t cut corners on quality. Yes, you’ll end up paying more. If you can borrow a replacement graphics card, try this quick test: Run your games at lower resolutions and reduce graphical effects. This helps the GPU perform better. An increase in FPS suggests your CPU is capable of handling better graphics settings. If your FPS remains unchanged, it’s likely your CPU is the limiting factor. Without a proper test, you’re making assumptions. FM24 appears to be a game primarily focused on single-thread performance. X3d processors are particularly well-suited for this type of workload.
I conducted some tests with a 2070 and at 1080p I notice a rise in FPS. It looks like the GPU is restricting the machine's performance.
My aim is to play smoothly at 1440p, which is the resolution my monitor supports.
I considered upgrading to a super RTX 4070 and a 750 watt power supply (Corsair, Seasonic or Be Quiet) as suggested by PC Part Picker.
Also, since I'm in France, I plan to purchase there, whether in France, Germany or Belgium.
