You can boost non-K CPUs using Z170 mobos. I've achieved this with a GA-Z170-HD3P board paired with an i5 6400, but you should look into specific guidelines since there are unique requirements and overclocking parameters that differ from the standard K series.

You cannot change the CPU settings as it's already locked (non-K), making it suitable for H170 motherboard.

You cannot overclock the CPU because it's not compatible with non-K technology, which means you're fine using an H170 slot. Did I get that right?

You can't change your CPU as it's locked (non-K), but you're fine with H170 slots. I mistakenly thought the Z170 board could unlock non-K CPUs? Actually, the Z board only supports overclocking K-type CPUs.
