Upgrading from Ryzen 7 3800X to Ryzen 7 5800X
Upgrading from Ryzen 7 3800X to Ryzen 7 5800X
I found a useful compatibility, my motherboard works with 5-series Ryzen CPUs. I’m considering swapping my Ryzen 7 3800X for the 7 5800X. The 5800X3D might also be worth looking into, especially for gaming performance. Data suggests better single-core gains, but given my older MOBO setup, full upgrade might not deliver maximum results. On the Asus support page for my model: https://www.asus.com/ea/supportonly/prim...pdesk_cpu/. The reason for this change comes from observing performance in Squad—my PC struggles with CPU limits while GPU remains idle. I also expect to sell my current CPU for about 100€, which could make the upgrade more attractive. Hardware: Ryzen 7 3800X, RTX 3070 (8GB), Asus Prime 370-PRO, T-Group DDR4-3200 CL16 (2x32GB).
I’d pick the 5800X3D for CPU-heavy situations. Its 3D V-Cache works well. Avoid running many background apps like RGB or live wallpapers while gaming—they can really slow things down.
I highly suggest choosing 5800X3D rather than 5800X. I switched to 5800X and I wish I had stayed with X3D; our setups are very alike, and I also have a 3070.
It's best to avoid investing in a 5800x model right now. At least 5700x3D is recommended.
It looks like you need to evaluate 5700X3D versus 5700X. The difference is just 100€, yet reviews suggest it might be a more favorable option. Appreciate the details!
For 1440p, avoid upgrading your GPU soon—opt for the 5700X. All eight cores work together in one CCD, offering better performance per core compared to Zen2. However, if you're targeting 1080p or 1440p and focusing on a GPU, consider a 5700X3D, 5800X3D, or switching the entire system (CPU, MBO, RAM).
I’ll say that based on the situation, both the 5700X and 5800X with strong overclocking can beat the 5xxx X3D chips. If you’re mainly into gaming and think about upgrading later, look for a good deal on the 5800X3D.
It looks like the goal is around 5800X3D. I’m not planning a full upgrade right now because the current configuration still works well for gaming, coding, and basic video editing. This change will come eventually, as I’ve been using this setup since my Ryzen 1700 days—thank you Asus for keeping this MOBO running smoothly! Appreciate the advice!
The primary focus will be on gaming. Other areas should still receive upgrades. The issue mainly came up because the benchmarks didn't show a big gap between 5800X and 5800X3D. However, I wasn't searching just for gaming benchmarks in general.
