Upgrading from an SSD to another SSD
Hello! I recently purchased a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD and will be collecting it tomorrow. My current Windows 10 setup is running on an older Samsung 850 Pro 256GB drive. I'm trying to decide whether to retain my existing installation or migrate everything. If I choose migration, can I selectively transfer only the necessary OS components or must I move the entire drive? Also, would it be possible to install fresh on the new drive while copying settings from my old C: partition? Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated! Best regards!
download windows 10 iso (64 bit) using rufus to load it onto a spare >8gb usb. prepare your existing ssd with all data for backup. plug in the usb, boot from it, wipe your current windows setup, install on the m.2 drive without interfering with the existing one, or keep it running if you prefer. windows may behave unpredictably during this process.
Avoid suspicious sources when downloading ISO files. Stick to official websites or trusted repositories for safety.
Ensure your USB drive meets the minimum size requirement of 4GB.
You could utilize a drive cloner to preserve the operating system and all your files.
