Upgrading from an i3 7100 to an i5 7500 on a 90H7000QUK M-board
Hello, thanks for sharing your setup and the issues you're facing. Your build looks solid with a 90H7000QUK motherboard, an i3 7100 CPU, and decent specs overall. The performance drop you're seeing—especially at higher frame rates—suggests there might be room for improvement, but it’s not clear if the bottleneck is elsewhere. An i5 7500 could definitely work on your board, though it may not match the i3's performance in demanding games. Checking the exact model number of your motherboard would help confirm compatibility and potential upgrades. Let me know if you want tips on testing or upgrading!
The savings seem minimal, around 1.5%. Comparing the chips shows only a slight performance gap—like 3.8GHz on i5 versus 3.9GHz on i3. The i5 offers extra cache and more cores (4 instead of 2), but the overall value isn’t clear. The price tag for the i5 feels high compared to these differences.
The game could benefit from more threads and processing power. It seems an i7 would suit it better, though the 1050ti still offers good performance for gamers. Limited by CPU and graphics capabilities.
It's not at full capacity, but performance improves when you increase the speed. The graphics card appears to handle it well, considering it's a CPU-heavy game.
It's demanding on the CPU, so I thought the graphics and resolution might be limited... I think an i7-7700 should handle it. However, I’d prefer waiting until late this year to save money. Let the newer models come out and consider getting a Ryzen 2nd or 3rd generation CPU board with affordable RAM. A 2700X or 3700X with at least 12 threads would work well for gaming. You could also upgrade your graphics card to something like the 1060Ti, which would be nice. Sell your current items to recover some funds or keep them as a backup or server setup. Just a few ideas—no urgent solution without spending on the i7.
I understand. You're running in high graphics settings with MSI Afterburner, using around 40% of your GPU power. The i7 processor seems more expensive than what you're comfortable spending right now, but the benefits are worth it. It makes sense to wait a bit then. Thanks for your advice!
The details are really clear! I haven’t operated a 1050ti before, so I’m not sure about its features. How about your memory and audio settings for this unit? Would it be possible to boost the memory frequency? Maybe we can get more performance out of it? (I’m not entirely confident the BIOS is very flexible...)
Honestly, I’m using the highest graphics options. I believe it doesn’t strain the CPU much. My main games are Skylines, Two Point Hospital, and Age of Empires 2 DE. The 1050 Ti works fine with them all at full settings. The motherboard runs around 2133 MHz for memory, which is definitely DDR4. I’m not sure how to boost the speed further—maybe through the BIOS?
