Upgrading from 6750xt to 7900xtx and comparing 5800x3d with 7800x3d
Hey there, im planning on getting a red devil 7900xtx at the moment i own a 5800x3d but from some recent becnhmarks ( AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs 5800X3D | TechSpot ) idk if i should upgrade or not it seems significant enough the test was run on a 4090 but the 7900xtx is close enough i bought the 5800x3d less than a month ago is it worth it to upgrade as soon as i have the money? im hunting max frames and probably wont upgrade within the next 5 years other specs are in the signature
If you decide to keep your 1440p screen, that’s likely fine. However, 4k won’t work well with it unless you adjust things. A 5800X3D at 1440p should suffice. Just tweak a few settings and it’ll be great—don’t pay extra for the upgrade if it doesn’t help.
The goal is to play identical games at maximum settings with consistent frame rates (165 FPS or more).
Nvidia GPUs require significant driver support, and in comparable performance they demand a CPU that's 20-30% more powerful to handle them effectively. The RTX 4090 is powerful, but Nvidia’s design means it needs a stronger processor to drive it well. The 7900XTX doesn’t match the power of an RTX 4090—it’s more like a 4080 alternative—and that makes it equally challenging as an RTX 4070Ti or RTX 3090. In short, there’s likely little distinction between a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 7700, 7900X, or the Ryzen 7 7800X3D with the best available cards. With today’s prices for the RX 6950XT and 7900XT, are you certain the 7900XTX is the optimal choice? Since last week you were using a 5800X3D plus a 6950XT combo (and you’re streaming at 1440p), I could easily reach 240 in PUBG without missing a beat. XD
I prefer staying current without major upgrades for a while. A 24GB VRAM setup, enhanced RGB lighting, and larger components would suit my needs. I want top performance in recent triple A titles, especially with modern settings, rather than older games with limited visuals.
The reason I didn't talk about the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC featuring RT Overdrive is because it wasn't something I wanted to include.
I was just looking into that topic, but I don’t really focus on ray tracing. I’d be fine just exploring and checking the visuals without getting too deep into path tracing. Could be a misunderstanding.
people ask about the visuals when they can’t even notice them during high frames per second. most of the time players care more about the story and environment than combat details, especially in immersive games. ray tracing for detail isn’t necessary when you’re focused on scenery rather than fighting enemies. it seems these features aren’t a priority in many current titles.
