Hey.... Atleast AMD came and gave Intel some competition so that we can be graced with cheaper and better performing components. AMD is even giving Nvidia a run considering they are forcing them to adopt a yearly/bi-yearly release of products (given that 3000 series Nvidia cards are around the corner). I feel like PC gaming will be cheaper than ever before being that 1st gen ryzen and a decent card (1070 or 1080) will be cut down in value with new AM5 and 3000 m series Nvidia. I'm planning on upgrading to a 2080 (or ti) when 3000 series Nvidia comes out, rather than buying new architecture. People will be able to find a decent 1070 or RX 580 (i7 or R7) rig for under $700, or atleast I hope they will.
I completely agree. Active duopoly is far superior to monopoly. Or the inactive version, which closely resembles monopoly. This explains why I’m more open-minded and willing to consider their advantages. They’re the only factor preventing the wolf from entering.
some people do it and others don’t, and I wouldn’t think 32MB is a big deal. The issue lies in people relying on consumers who likely don’t understand what a BIOS does when researching motherboard sizes. If AMD claims X470 boards work with a 32MB chip, consumers might accept it. But when they buy something and find out it doesn’t fit, they get frustrated. I’m checking some X470 boards to see how many have 16MB versus 32MB chips, but it’s tough to spot them for certain models. For example, the MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon has a note saying some BIOS support was removed because of size limits, suggesting it probably has a 16MB chip. The Aorus Gaming 7 also lacks that support, and if I can’t find it, most regular users probably won’t have a chance.
It should suffice to have a quicker CPU than what is currently offered for the PS5/Scarlett. This could extend up to five years, depending on how console makers proceed. It seems there are storage concerns too. This specific problem is unclear to me. A CPU might not be sufficient. For added interest, the Ryzen 4000 is compatible only with one motherboard at the moment (x570). Predicting what’s ahead is challenging. The entire decade of functional CPUs Intel has produced since Sandy Bridge isn’t expected to return in a meaningful way soon. If future-proofing is what Sandy Bridge represented, I doubt it will be possible anytime soon.
It seems the Ryzen 4xxx lineup will remain viable for several years until DDR5 becomes mainstream and PCI-E 5.0 appears. Buying a B450 board now feels frustrating given the upcoming news, but consider the bigger picture. Many affordable B450 boards—around $70-80—can support 3950X, which isn’t too bad. This year Intel and AMD are likely to finalize a platform that ends DDR4, and the socket sizes we’re familiar with will probably stick around. If you assemble a PC using a Z490 (if Rocket Lake rumors hold) or X570, it could last a long time. Even then, future upgrades will bring new cases, power supplies, and cooling solutions.
I was considering this and a video I watched said the first update of a new memory is often similar to or even slower than the top models from the previous generation, since it needs time to develop. Perhaps I should stick with the best AM4 version and wait 3 to 6 years... or maybe not. It's tough to decide when to upgrade. The main point is that new releases keep coming, and waiting means missing out. I wonder how long it will take for the GPU to fully support PCI-E 4.0.
