Upgrading an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G roughly four years ago
I'm considering upgrading or building a new PC for home office use, not for gaming. What are my choices?
I currently have this:
It lists a motherboard from Lenovo, model BDPLANAR M MB AM4 PR560 WIN DPK, but it doesn't show any processors in the parts list.
Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphics
Memory: 13.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Vega 11 Graphics
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 11A9CTO1WW
System Version: ThinkCentre M75s-1
the system needs to function in a home office setting.
what problems are you encountering?
regarding storage, if it's an hdd, consider upgrading to a ssd.
It's an SSD. It came with Windows and sleep/suspend didn't function properly. After upgrading to Windows 11, it still didn't work. Using Linux didn't help with sleep either. Now I turn it off every night after it runs all day. Overall, it seems to become a bit slower each year. Opening videos in Firefox causes the fan to start spinning up quickly. It has Wi-Fi, but it's an older version. Booting is very slow. The BIOS is up to date.
Have you ever performed a complete Windows update on this device? It's possible the existing version is outdated and full of unnecessary updates. Ensure all fans and heatsinks are clean. You may need to reapply thermal paste to the CPU. What is your budget for a new system?
I removed the windows and now have Linux. Checked the case and found very little dust. I'm trying to keep costs under 6 to 700.
After reinstalling Windows 10, it powers off and then immediately wakes up. Does this happen regardless of the operating system?
I reinstalled windows 10.
