I've been considering upgrading to an AMD 16-core Rizen 9 3950X and thinking about suitable x570 motherboards such as the Rog Viii Hero, MSI Meg Ace, or Gigabyte Aorus. I noticed there are no Windows 7 drivers available from the manufacturer's site. I discovered some possible solutions but wanted to ask: What benefits am I gaining by using a workaround? Will the audio function properly? Could performance drop without a driver? Will the built-in 2WiFi remain operational? If yes, might speed decrease? Are there other features that could be lost? I also wondered if it makes sense to opt for an x470 board like the x470 Hero VIII WiFi, which supports Windows 8 and pairs with 3rd-gen Ryzen 16-core chips. Also, does this motherboard support the new Ryzen 5950X 16-core CPU?
Why bother with an older version of Windows for modern hardware? Since the 7th generation Intel processor, no official support exists beyond Windows 10, which remains the top-performing OS I've used. Honestly, Windows 10 delivers the best performance I've experienced. I rarely reinstall after three years; with Windows 7 or 8, I'd have to refresh it every few months. Audio would function but likely with limited capabilities. Onboard Wi-Fi probably wouldn't work due to driver requirements from other OS versions. Many times I avoid older Windows on new systems because they won't boot without significant modifications.
For genuine Windows 7 needs, I suggest using it inside a virtual machine with a current, compatible operating system on the host. AMD advises sticking with 500-series boards, particularly if you plan to upgrade to a Zen 3 processor. Don’t waste support time on hardware that’s already reached its end of life.
