Looking for a solid CPU around $200? Your current setup is decent, but upgrading could boost performance. Consider a Ryzen 7 or similar for better efficiency. You might also want to check if your motherboard supports the new CPU and ensure RAM is compatible.

But why? Missing too much information to know if this would even help. In all likelihood dude is better off spending the $200 on an SSD, or saving it for a new GPU etc.

You have a 500 GB SSD with 100 GB space and a 1 TB hard drive with 300 GB free. You're looking for additional computer components for Christmas.

The upgrade to the central processing unit (CPU) would offer limited benefit compared to improving other system components. The best approach depends on your intended use for the computer and the existing specs, including storage drives and possibly a graphics card.

Sorry, I replied almost instantly after you posted your comment. The details you shared about your computer and usage application aren’t available to me. I believe upgrading to an SSD would be a strong improvement—reducing mechanical stress during boot and application loading, speeding up performance, and offering many other benefits. A 240GB SSD should cover the boot drive and a few programs, though you might opt for a bigger size if you need more space.

For fast editing at high speeds using an SSD, a bigger drive is advisable. If the issue lies with the OS, opt for a reliable model with sufficient space. For recording projects, avoid lesser-known brands and choose trusted makers like Samsung for confidence. Back up critical data just in case the SSD fails. The 860 EVO 1TB is recommended, costing about $10 more than similar models on sale. Other options include Crucial, Seagate, Western Digital, etc., but Samsung models usually install smoothly. Links to these products: provided above.

Since gaming is common, you probably won't notice these points. Your monitor might be 60hz, so it won't stand out. Investing in a higher-quality display would be wiser. If you're using an RX 570, that's fine. Opting for a mechanical drive is better than spending on an SSD. There are many reasons to learn more.
