Hello! I recently upgraded my PC with an ASROCK b650m micro, an ATX, and a Ryzen 7800X3D processor along with 32GB of 6000MHz RAM. I also purchased a new CPU cooler and ended up getting the Artic Freezer III 240L. After playing DayZ, I noticed it gets quite hot compared to my friends who run a Ryzen 7 5700X and only hit high temperatures in the 60s to low 70s after just 20-30 minutes of playtime. My system was running at 80-85°C. I haven’t done much overclocking except enabling PBO, adjusting the curve to -30, and tweaking memory timings to 6200MHz. It’s working without crashes. I think it should handle the game better at lower temps—please help with some advice!

It's quite high. Could you share your fan curve details? Also, what idle temperatures are you experiencing? And what scores do you see in Cinebench?
Thanks for your quick response. The CinebenchR23 score was just above 18000 previously and ranged between 77 and 81c during multicore runs. My fancurves are set to performance and idle temps around 40-45c. I re-applied thermal paste yesterday but didn’t notice any significant changes in temperatures. I understand DayZ is a fairly outdated game, yet it still felt a bit too hot at 85c.
The system performance aligns reasonably with expectations for a 7800X3D running at -30 CO. I’d anticipate around 18500, though this might vary due to OS installation or benchmarking differences. Regarding DayZ reaching 85°C, it’s likely influenced by its boost algorithm rather than the chip itself. Since the game is less optimized and uses fewer threads compared to CPU benchmarks, it can operate cooler despite being resource-heavy. Your idle temperatures seem normal, and your CB score matches typical results.
Also, note that switching UCLK DIV1 to UCLK == MEMCLK could improve performance significantly.
Thanks for your helpful response! Your latest Cinabench result was 18434 with temperatures staying under 80°C. Reading your post eased my concerns while playing Dayz at high temps. I'm planning to test other games today and observe their performance. Also switched the UCLK DIV1 setting to UCLK == MEMCLK in the BIOS—thank you for catching that!
I knew the TJmax temperature but thought it might be a bit high while playing DayZ at 82-85°C. After getting a reply from RONOTHAN, I’m not as concerned anymore. I just played Warzone now at 60-65°C, so I feel fine. The PC gets a little sweaty from DayZ like I do.
You're referring to a situation where the MSI Maglineup offers various components, but some lack adequate airflow. Regardless, running at 85°C is still within an acceptable range for a 7800X3D.
Consider reattaching the AIO. Verify the retention plate and AIO bracket are fully secured. Ensure the pump and cooler are tightly fastened. Repainting may be necessary.
