Upgraded to a more powerful GPU but still experiences minor performance hiccups.
I recently changed from an ASUS GTX 1060 dual to a XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Radeon RX 6600. Now I experience significant microstutter. Over the past two days I’ve been persistent in troubleshooting. I reinstalled the old drivers, tried older versions, disabled overlays, switched off and on anti-lag, adjusted special upscaling settings, turned off AXMP, changed overclocking limits, upgraded my power supply from 400W to 600W, and even reinstalled Windows. Clearing my hard drive and SSD didn’t help. Some fixes eased the problem but didn’t fully resolve it. My microstutter mostly stopped in Black Ops 3, though Destiny 2 still sometimes stutters. I’m not sure if it’s a shader cache issue or something else. I’ve heard AMD GPUs have had similar problems before. Sorry for the long explanation—I just wanted to cover everything I tried.
I ran Destiny 2 on a 6800 XT without any problems. Could you tell me the exact model of your motherboard?
B350M PRO-VD PLUS, sorry I missed adding it to my post, just did
Well I see 1 issue here, B350 boards only have PCIE gen 3. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350M-PR...cification RX 6600 uses PCIE gen 4 X8, if it were gen 4 x16 it would've been fine. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/ra...6600.c3696 So there's bandwidth limitation here, in addition to potential small bottleneck from the CPU.
I understood well, but this shouldn't lead to a bad microstutter, right? Then why wouldn't undervolting help? I installed MSI after the burner and don’t believe the PCIe 3 would restrict it too much.
It's likely due to the lack of benchmarks for Destiny 2 in this area. Certain game engines can be quite strict, and it's possible that the engine used for D2 isn't suited for the bandwidth constraints. Since Doom Eternal works well, the Doom series engine appears to be highly optimized. Lowering the voltage only cuts power consumption and heat without affecting performance.
The clock speed seems not to be the main problem. Destiny 2 appears fine technically, but it behaves as expected despite its age and the outdated engine. Since you've likely installed it on an SSD, further issues are unlikely unless something else is affecting performance.
Last night I performed the Furmark stress test in theory—it should have shown stutters similar to Destiny 2, but it didn’t. Could there be something missing, or is this a bandwidth problem?
