Hi everyone! I just completed assembling my PC and when it first turned on, the CPU began overheating. I’m looking for advice on what might be causing this issue. My friend mentioned it could be related to the motherboard, CPU, or the heat sink. Any suggestions or insights would be really helpful. Thanks for your support! It could have gotten too hot without starting to smoke right away. Did the smoke appear immediately after powering on?

Remove the processor and check for any harm to the board or CPU. Disconnect all power clearly.

When inspecting for damage, are you checking for scratches or bent components? Thank you!

I notice mainly discoloration and burn marks on the underside of the CPU and in the socket. If it was indeed the CPU or socket that was overheating, look for any unusual signs such as scratches, bent pins, etc. Also inspect the socket area on the motherboard for similar issues like burn marks or discoloration.

Could the issue stem from the CPU cooler not functioning properly, causing overheating and smoke, or is there likely damage to the CPU or motherboard?

You also have an AIO, which means there might have been a pump issue or something from the pump itself or the wires. A short could have caused the smoke.

I examined the CPU, its socket, and nearby regions—no signs of damage were found.
