Upgraded GPU but experiencing stuttering and low frame rates.
I recently switched my GPU from a 1660 Super to a 3060 and have been experiencing severe stutters. My GPU usage is low even when playing most games, and I’m struggling to identify the issue with my setup. My CPU is a Ryzen 9 3900X, motherboard is B450 Tomahawk Gaming, plus 32GB RAM, power supply is a 600W Thermaltake unit. I’ve tried everything but it’s making things worse—I barely get any frames and don’t know why.
I also tried DDU, but it felt like it only made things worse; it didn’t really assist.
Download HWInfo to identify unusual performance (slow GPU and CPU speeds, PCIe link under 3.0 X16, overheating issues, etc.). Try running the GPU in another PCIe slot or on a different PC if available. Also, let me know which games you tested.
PCIe 3 and 4 won’t noticeably affect performance. The 3060 supports 16 lanes, so that’s a minor factor. Turn off ASPM in the BIOS for optimal speed, though this isn’t the main concern. You can check detailed info on their site—use the portable version if possible. There might be a BIOS-related issue with RTX 3060s; newer updates have fixed it, so that’s worth checking first.
I've never changed my profile before; the system slows down, and I'm not sure how to update it. My board is a B450 Gaming Plus Max, and I'm planning to install that. Thank you!
Interact with sensors to view all temperatures and clock rates. The RTX 3060 should run at about 1500-2000MHz under stress, while its CPU clock must exceed 4GHz during load. Temperatures should stay below 80°C. In the summary, you'll see the PCIe link speed listed for the GPU—expect X16 for this model. Identify your motherboard and install the newest BIOS on a flash drive. When accessing BIOS, ensure the update is completed to avoid data loss.
