I’m only able to tweak a few settings—SSID, password, and a small adjustment here and there. I just need a solid cable modem or router combo and no more of that annoying air freshener smell they sent me. I’m already searching for something better, but it’s really tough finding a good option right now.

If you’re okay with separate gear, I’m using the CM1000v2 on my Comcast line and it performs well. Paired with the Synology RT 2600ac, you might want a Docsis 3.1 modem instead of a 3.0 model. These modems tend to last longer, so you won’t need frequent upgrades as your ISP improves its network and speeds over time.

It was a bit of a surprise when I visited Walmart and picked up the Arris SBG6950AC2. After setting it up, everything worked perfectly for what I needed. I only did this because a family member couldn't connect to the 2.4 frequency (thanks, Roku) and wasn’t able to stream Netflix. It turned out they received just one band, which didn’t work with any of my devices that don’t support 5G. Right then it was clear something needed fixing. My current speed is 483 downloads and 24 uploads—exactly what I’m paying for. Thanks to everyone who helped out! I also have 192 browser access and can forward ports through network devices instead of relying on an app.
