Upgraded CPU and motherboard, but the portable storage isn't being detected anymore.
I recently upgraded from an I5 6600k to a R7 2700x, along with the necessary motherboard modifications. Yet, none of the USB ports on my case or the Mobo’s interface are detecting my portable drive. It doesn’t appear in file explorer, disk management, or any other location I’ve checked. The drive works fine on my laptop. Previously, the front USB 3.0 ports on the case did recognize the drive. Those ports still function properly with various devices—mice, keyboards, webcams, microphones, etc.—though they don’t show up at all. The USB 3.0 connectors in the case are securely placed in one of the Mobo’s USB 3.1 headers. Changing those headers didn’t resolve the issue. My power supply is semi-modular and only provides an 8-pin CPU connector, whereas my new X470 board features an 8+4 pin connector. The system runs with just the 8-pin connector, even though I know 8+4 would be better. I purchased an adapter from 8 to 8+4 pins along with the CPU and Mobo, but it’s expected to arrive next Monday. The motherboard BIOS is stock, but I suspect the root cause lies in the CPU power connection. I have no way to confirm this until the adapter arrives. One observation: the system freezes during boot (Windows logo/spinning circle) whenever the drive is connected to any USB port. Once unplugged, it boots up quickly again. This behavior repeats across different ports and devices. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I can provide more details if needed.
