Upgrade Your Video Editing Power: Ryzen 9 3900X vs 3950X
I'm considering a processor upgrade for my Video Editing Workstation. Right now I have a Ryzen 7 2700X, which works fine but doesn't deliver smooth performance in Premiere Pro timelines. Working with 4K video in ProRes and H.264 is much smoother than what I'm experiencing. My current laptop has an i7-8750H with six cores, so it's not the best choice. I plan to replace my Vega 56 GPU with an RTX 2070 Super Card, add a new CPU, and install a Gen 4 SSD for faster scratch disks. Benchmarks show the 3950X excels in exporting projects, but timeline responsiveness is what matters most during editing. Switching from Zen to Zen 2 already gives me some single-core gains, and even the 3900X provides four more cores. The 3950X seems like a solid pick, though the cost is quite high. For that price difference I might upgrade my lighting gear to improve my video shoots. I earn from video production, but justifying such an expense would be tough, especially if I plan to replace both my GPU and SSD at once.
