Hi, I understand your situation. You're looking to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro on your laptop, but you're still using the original factory installation and don't want to reinstall. The seller mentions these keys come from HP, Dell, or Lenovo machines that are no longer repairable and are genuine. You're wondering if you can still buy the key and use it to upgrade via the Windows Store, since they say having a key allows upgrades.

This needs a full reinstall and can't be improved by just using a key. I strongly caution against purchasing keys from eBay.

I would not buy a recycled key. Good chance it will get blacklisted and it's not a legitimate way to purchase it. I have not personally tried to use an oem key as an upgrade. Purchase it straight from the ms store or commit piracy, your choice.

It shouldn't be this way. Windows offers a built-in method to upgrade to Pro, either by purchasing it from the retailer or applying an existing key. This process modifies the current operating system instead of needing a full reinstall. https://www.howtogeek.com/234946/how-to-...fessional/

But why are you making this upgrade? It's only useful if you require 1TB of RAM and file encryption.

If that were the situation, I bet the seller would have many negative reviews, but over the past year his feedback was mostly positive—about 99% were good. The only negative comments came about a Windows 7 Ultimate Key, which makes sense since I already have Windows 10 and need Pro. Unfortunately, I won’t buy that item.

Blackhole890 focuses on connecting to a domain and Hyper-V. I understand I might benefit from Virtualbox and VMWare, but Hyper-V offers native support for many tools I rely on. Remote Desktop is also a key feature.

I moved up from home to pro by adjusting the settings. Just swap the key, and it handles the upgrade. No need to reinstall. Are you a student? If yes, you can obtain an upgrade key for free from Dreamspark—it's where I received mine.
