Yes, he recently received a BIOS update. It looks like adding a SATA SSD would probably require a bigger upgrade compared to sticking with an HDD.

It’ll be a slight improvement then. Still quite slow when you compare it to the $129 Ryzen 5600 and the $110 Intel 12100f. Great gift ideas (smile). B450 mobos for the 5600 are available for around $40-50 as well, plus affordable RAM options. All under $200 total.
