It seems one of your four RAM slots on the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Mobo is damaged. After installing two Corsair vengeance 4G modules, only one was detected. Now you're considering upgrading to eight sticks, but still only recognizing one. I suspect a faulty port. You might want to replace the Gigabyte unit. Since your son enjoys gaming and we use the PC together, an all-in-one upgrade could work well—budget around $300 if you need advice!

You could simply rely on the remaining two banks instead of switching banks.

You typically placed it in slots 2 and 4 from left to right. Check your manual for details, or look for a diagram near the dimmer switches—it’s unlikely if it’s a low-tier board.

They are available in 2 and 4 configurations. If you change the setup, the computer keeps shutting down and restarting.

Looking at the latest I5 models, they typically offer solid memory controllers and most include channel support, so you're unlikely to encounter issues unless the unit is extremely outdated.

I've got a second-gen i5 with 2500k—maybe it's time to upgrade both my motherboard and processor... Oye...

Sure, I recently purchased a set of Corsair 8GB DDR3 RAM sticks. It seems the latest models are now DDR4. Would you like recommendations for a suitable motherboard and CPU pairing? I’m curious if this setup remains effective in a few years.
