It depends largely on the game in question for performance gains. I’d prefer to go with the 3600 and save up to upgrade both CPU and GPU together, as that seems more strategic. However, if you find a 5600/5700X model at a reasonable price and it suits CPU-intensive titles, upgrading now could be worthwhile.
You're looking at a decent used 5700/5800x (~120-150$) or a 5800x3d (~200-250$), and upgrading to something under $80 sounds smart.
Honestly, give yourself enough funds for both the CPU and GPU upgrade. Then either recoup the expenses or increase your budget by selling the outdated gear on the marketplace. Or, honestly, this machine is ready to be discarded and start fresh.
Upgrading from 3600 to 5600 or 5700x won't result in a major jump.
