Sure, you can upgrade your RAM to 16GB on an Intel H55 motherboard. Just ensure your current RAM is compatible with the new amount and follow the proper installation steps.

We require more detailed information beyond the H55 board and 8GB RAM. Which CPU model is being used, what exact motherboard configuration exists, and what RAM setup is currently in place? While a 16GB upgrade is likely feasible, other specifications will influence the process.

The concise response is yes. The h55 chipset backs Inte's first-gen i-series CPUs like the i7-750, i5-650, i3-530, and some earlier Pentium dual-core models. It also accommodates a few older Pentium chips. All supported CPUs use up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM. For these vintage boards, consider DDR3 1033 or 1333 memory. I’d steer clear of frequencies at 1600 or above to ensure compatibility.

It might still work, but using 1600MHz could be problematic or incompatible altogether.

Visit the tools section and export the report as a .txt file. You'll find details about RAM slots and their current usage. Note that before 8GB DIMMs existed, systems could support up to 8GB of RAM, though most BIOS settings don't recognize higher capacities. For boards with four DIMMs, check if they're running in a 2x4GB configuration—then adding another 2x4GB stick would suffice. If using a 4x2GB kit, you'll need to replace all four sticks.

With the older board, the available DIMM slots aren't clearly listed. Based on what I can see, it seems like a 2 DIMM setup. If that's the case, you're good to go—but the only sure way right now is to check the side panel to confirm the exact number of slots.
