Hey everyone! I wanted to upgrade my old ACER ASPIRE 5715 z. Swapped in an SSD and upgraded the RAM from 2 GB (1+1 DDR2 400) to 4 GB (2+2). I checked each RAM separately and they functioned fine, but when I tried connecting them together the PC would freeze and show a blue screen. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a ton for your help!

It might be that your CPU or motherboard doesn’t support 4GB of RAM, and searching online hasn’t turned up much information.

I purchased them together, so they’re the same set. By the way, if I swap back the originals, everything functions fine. I also experimented with two different kits, wondering perhaps one was faulty. It’s confusing… The BIOS seems to recognize it, but Windows won’t boot.

I'm looking forward to a more recent CPU. Perhaps once it's installed, the RAM will be recognized properly?

Some online sources suggest updating the BIOS might be the issue. Could that be the cause? Thank you. I'm hoping for a more recent CPU; perhaps once it's upgraded, the RAM will be recognized properly?

It's possible if the CPU isn't working correctly, especially with modern motherboards that include a north bridge chipset handling memory. The CPU itself doesn't manage memory controllers—it relies on the chipset. Are there any BIOS updates for your motherboard?

Yes, a USB flash drive can be used to install Windows 10 or Linux and test boot options.

I downloaded Windows 7. Before that, I had Windows 10 and faced the same issue. The older setup with 1+1 RAM works fine, but using two at once doesn’t. (Two plus two doesn’t work.) I’m really worried.
