I need to improve my CPU since it's limiting my GPU performance. I have an GTX 1650 with 8GB RAM, and my current processor is an AMD FX 6300.

It doesn't make sense to upgrade that system. Your choices are CPUs such as FX 8300, 8320, 8350... I can assure you that no matter what you upgrade to, the performance boost won't justify the cost. An FX 8320 would likely set you back $60-80... it's not a good deal. Usually, I recommend getting a B450 chipset board along with a Ryzen CPU and DDR4 RAM, then selling the components as a package. But nowadays, doing this would require more than $200.

What upgrades should I consider since I’m seeing much lower FPS than others on the same GPU and RAM? It seems like my CPU might be the issue, especially since I upgraded my GPU recently.

It varies based on the video settings you pick, like resolution and whether the game needs to fetch textures from the hard drive constantly. JayzTwoCents showed results using an older CPU model and a similar card, still achieving good performance. Adjusting image quality—switching from ultra to high or vice versa—can help. Research and tweak settings such as shadow levels or map details can significantly improve game speed.

I watched that video and admit I never reached the medium or high levels. Most games run at 20-30 frames per second, so there’s little discussion about high settings. I upgraded my GPU because I wanted to play most titles at 1080p. My CPU seems to be limiting performance, though. I checked a bottleneck calculator and realized my processor isn’t powerful enough for the card. I don’t think changing the GPU or RAM is necessary, but I’m not very tech-savvy. I’ve spent months tweaking NVidia and Windows settings, but nothing really helped. I feel a bit discouraged since my friends have cheaper GPUs yet still get solid FPS. If anyone can advise what to upgrade or how to proceed, it would be a big help.

I'm aiming to improve my CPU since my current one is outdated and limiting my GPU performance. I have a GTX 1650 OC edition with 8GB DDR4 RAM and an AMD FX 6300 with six cores. My budget is around $200.

I wouldn't claim it's the worst issue, and finding a new platform for that budget isn't straightforward. You could possibly find a used 6600k combo, but it really depends on your local market. I'd prefer to accept it and save another $100-200 before upgrading, as you can achieve significantly better performance with that amount.

Sure thing! Just to clarify, it’s not the main issue here. I’m seeing low FPS in games even though I have the same GPU, RAM, and settings as others. It seems like my PC isn’t performing well enough for what I expect. I’m considering upgrading the CPU since mine is from 2011.
