Hello, I’m trying to increase the RAM on my current laptop. It has an 8GB DDR4 module and I want to add another 8GB. Should I purchase a matching RAM or a different type? My model is an Asus X542UN, and the existing RAM is a Samsung M471A1K43CB1-CRC 1x8GB. I found a few options on Amazon that seem compatible, but their specs differ. Would it be best to buy two of the newer units to avoid confusion? I’m not sure if they’ll fit properly in this machine. Thank you for your help—I appreciate any extra details you can share.

If the speed and delay remain consistent or improve, you don’t need an extra matching DIMM.

Based on my observations, laptop RAM tends to swing quite a bit. As long as it's SODIMM, opting for a solid kit with a base speed under 3000Mhz works well since Intel CPUs handle lower speeds better than AMD. A reliable 16GB model from brands like Crucial, Corsair or HyperX should provide you with solid performance.

You can reduce the RAM speed, though it’s unclear how straightforward this is on ASUS devices and their BIOS settings. If I’m being honest, check if you can find another stick with identical timing. Or consider a 16GB module at 2400MHz or 2666MHz.

I zou aanraden om deze optie te kiezen. Het biedt een 2400MHz versie, wat vergelijkbaar is met de bestaande model.

It would really help if we could get that information. Knowing the RAM timings is important, though figuring them out can be tricky without direct access.

I wasn’t able to locate any 2400MHZ laptop RAM on AZERTY.nl. Unfortunately, Amazon appears to be the most suitable choice for me, offering better prices and free shipping.
