LMAO, OP, sure it's socketed. PGA means pin grid array and you don't solder pins, just put them in a socket. BGA are soldered and pre Haswell (Gen 4) — there are many laptops with sockets. You'll need to verify the power and cooling capabilities of that laptop, since your Pentium has a 35W TDP while some better processors might be 45W. Technically IVB could work, but it's unlikely a manufacturer would do that. Look at mobile SNB processors — shouldn't be an issue except for power and cooling concerns. Maybe search online to see if anyone has tried this before.

Yes, that should work. Your specs match Intel i7 3632QM.

Many laptops, like this one, have socket connections. A common misunderstanding is that all laptops are soldered. The CPU directory provides a reliable list of supported CPUs by socket: http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%...988B).html

Not very feasible compared to a laptop—my Y50 is around 2.5kg and fits in the space of two medium books. A regular desktop PC would be a nightmare to carry around with a car or on public transport.

I understand that feeling, right? The screen gets messy on the gaming laptop, but it keeps running for an hour.

Before proceeding, verify the laptop's firmware and ensure it can manage the additional power supply.

You can verify the firmware version by accessing the device settings or using manufacturer-specific tools. To assess power handling, check the specifications listed in the manual or consult the device’s documentation for supported voltage and current ranges.
