your hp compaq 8200 elite with an i5 2400 works fine, but upgrading to a better cpu depends on your needs. an i7 3770k is a solid choice for this board, offering improved performance over the i5 while staying compatible. check availability and compatibility before deciding.

It depends on what you need. The 3770 is a smaller unit, while the 3770k is much larger. Choose based on your requirements.

Unless you intend to replace the CPU with a different motherboard that supports overclocking later, it seems more economical to choose the Intel Core i7 3770 over the i7 3770K.

You were hoping for something better on the 8200, like an i7 2600, but it seems the HP might have misled you. Haha, guess you had some fun with that!

I think this might be incorrect. I'm exploring options to make it function, possibly through modding or BIOS adjustments. Currently, a 3770k is a Gen 3 chip and the HP Compaq 8200 Elite uses a Q67 Express chipset, which isn't meant for Gen 3 processors. I've also tested using an SFF version of the 8200 Elite, but no results have been confirmed. I'll update this post if I discover a solution, otherwise advise against purchasing it for this setup.
