In the evening, my Dell XPS 9550 is still functioning, though it feels a bit outdated. After replacing the motherboard a few years ago for warranty reasons, I’m trying to maximize its value. Recently, I needed to run Docker and various development tools that exceeded the laptop’s 16GB memory limit, so I upgraded to 32GB (the highest supported). I visited the official site, entered my machine details, and received recommendations. After a six-week wait due to supply issues, the new RAM arrived today. However, I encountered problems: upon installation, the system displayed “Memory Configuration changed,” I accessed the BIOS, and confirmed 32GB was listed—but when I saved the settings, the machine failed to boot. It showed orange and white flashes before shutting down, which I suspect indicates a board failure. I’ve tried reinstalling the RAM, but it still doesn’t boot properly. Now I’m unsure whether the issue lies with the mainboard or something else. Since I can’t test the memory in another machine (it’s the only one with removable RAM), my options are: 1) The sticks might be faulty, 2) They aren’t compatible, or 3) There’s another problem I’m missing. Regarding a return, I’m hesitant because shipping back to Spain would be inconvenient, and even then I’d still need an upgrade. If I must return the memory, what specifications should I order? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Things become more confusing. Before returning the memory, I attempted one final send and retrieved the BIOS again. Now it remains displayed on this screen.

Memory issues were reported. Today I visited the scan shop, purchased two units on the counter, installed them, and they worked for the first time. Now I’m initiating a return.
