Hello, my DSX58 is running the X5680 or W3680. I’m looking into CPU options other than the i7 980X since it’s quite costly. Can these chips be overclocked with Turbo Boost without changing the base clock? Also, I need to know if the Arctic Freezer i11 can keep them cool at stock speeds and push them up to around 4.2 GHz or higher. I’ve heard someone using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility on a W3680 for overclocking, but I’m not sure it will work everywhere.

The W3680 works just like other W36xx versions. The X5680 seems to be an exception.

I'd also try the W series since you have memory dividers available. X series CPUs allow a direct 1:1 performance, which is great. It's not bad if you can handle C6 or C7, though memory capacity is limited.

Intel DX58SO appears to include overclock options in BIOS, making the choice less critical. For beginners, the W3680 can be simpler since you can easily reach 4.0–4.1GHz by adjusting the multiplier while keeping BCLK at the standard 133MHz. It also supports overclocking via Intel XTU, which is ideal for OEM boards lacking BIOS overclock features. The X5680 offers a more affordable alternative. Aim for 4.0–4.2GHz using 20x or 21x multipliers, 200MHz BCLK and voltages between 1.3–1.35V. Numerous helpful guides exist online, or you can seek advice in the Intel HEDT forum thread provided. I’m uncertain if the W3670 title is correct; however, it has a locked multiplier and lower QPI link speed (4.8GT/s vs. 6.4GT/s), so I wouldn’t suggest it. Only the W3680, W3690, i7-980X, and i7-990X support unlocked multipliers.
