Hello, here are my details: I5 2400 GTX 1060 with 6GB EVGA SC 2x4GB DDR3 at 1333MHZ, H61M-A/BR motherboard, Intel Xeon E3-1245 v1. I also have a Bluecase BG-015 cooler and Hyper TX3 EVO cooler. I’m planning to upgrade my CPU and was thinking about getting an i5 2500K for overclocking. I’ve noticed Intel Xeons are similar to i7 3770K, but I’m unsure if they can be overclocked—should I prioritize more clocks or threads? Based on the Brazilian market, both options seem available at the same price.

From what I see, Xeon seems to be improving slightly. It offers more cache and higher threading support. Unlike some other processors, Xeon doesn’t have an unlocked multiplier, so you can only overclock the base frequency. Therefore, expect no significant overclocking on a Xeon.

I'd choose the Xeon since overclocking doesn't significantly boost performance, but hyperthreading offers real benefits.

This CPU model supports LGA1155 and works with motherboards from the 2nd and 3rd generation Core i3/i5/i7 series. Your motherboard documentation lists supported CPUs, and you can find more details here: https://www.asus.com/br/Motherboards/H61...fications/. If your BIOS is older than version 0403, you'll need to upgrade it before using the Core i7-3770K.

Discovering the true value of overclocking isn't easy. It clearly boosts performance, especially in games, more so than hyperthreading. Plus, it's surprisingly simple to locate a 3770k model under $100 on eBay—offering both options.

I can locate the i5 2500K and Xeon models for 400BRL or 72,33USD, the i7 3770K for 800 BRL or 144,66USD. I don’t want to spend that much, so I’m considering getting the Xeon instead.

If OC boosts performance significantly, I'd expect around a 20fps improvement in CS at 4.8GHz compared to the standard version.

I installed a Xeon E3-1240 on an older Asus B75 board, moving up from an i3 3220. It’s really powerful and now forms the core of a refurbished work PC setup. Works very well.

It was a specific CPU model, paired with a graphics card and a certain resolution. I tested it under different conditions—limited frames or using VSync, G-Sync, or FreeSync. There are many variables at play here. This is just a personal story based on one experience. Overclocking definitely helped in my case, so Intel would have had to price those 'K' CPUs higher. Aftermarket cooling solutions, especially water-based ones, weren’t common. Saying overclocking doesn’t meaningfully boost performance is not something I take seriously.
