For gamers, the 7800X3D or 9800X3D are top choices if you can afford them. You might also consider a Ryzen 7600/x, 9600/x or 7700X paired with a 14.7 GHz processor for gaming.

Even if the i7 14700k is more affordable, other factors should be considered.

No reason to go intel More power hungry and higher end chips suffer from degregation issues Amd is a better choice for gaming and you get future support and availability for upgrades Also I doubt that the 14700K is cheaper than the Ryzen 7600/x 9600/x or 7700x

The 7700x offers better value compared to the 14700k, delivering performance similar to or slightly superior in certain titles. It also provides much simpler cooling management. A 14-game average at 1080p using a 4090 shows the 7800X3D outperforming the 14900k. The 14700k isn't available here, but the comparison is clear.

What about the new intel plateform 1851. I know it's not much of an improvement over 1700 but at least there's hope for the future, no ?

They're decent for productivity or mixed usage, but not much reason to buy one for gaming over AM5.
