You're considering switching from a Ryzen 5 5600X to an Intel i5 13600K. Think about whether you'll need driver updates, a new SSD, or any other adjustments.

You’d need to perform a fresh installation of Windows on your boot drive and obtain the latest BIOS and chipset drivers. The instructions for downloading a clean Windows install are available in the video below.

Just because I'm considering switching soon... Also, this could be a super basic question. Would you install a brand-new Windows version first, then add the new motherboard and CPU, restart everything, and finally get the chipset drivers updated?

You don't need to complete the installation first. As someone with intermediate experience, I made the same error before. I had to install the new motherboard, CPU, and other components first, then restart the system. After that, I restored everything from backups—games are optional and can be replaced—and finally downloaded the drivers for all devices.

After a fresh Windows setup, some users claim their AMD system boots smoothly on Intel hardware or vice versa. It really depends on the situation. If it works, you might face minor issues afterward, but it’s generally manageable. I keep my data on a separate drive that I can restore after reinstalling. The whole process usually takes just an hour or two, compared to long hours spent troubleshooting online.
