Upgrade your CPU for better performance.
Upgrade your CPU for better performance.
My PC details: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 (rev 1.2), AMD FX8300 at stock, 2x8GB G.Skill RipJaw DDR31600 RAM, ASUS GTX1070 graphics, Samsung 250GB EVO SSD, Windows 10 x64, Samsung 1TB QVO, games pre-installed, Corsair CX550W power supply. I’m considering upgrading the motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Would a Ryzen 4500 be better than the FX8300? Yes, it could limit performance of the GTX1070. With a budget of 500 euros, what would be the best choice?
Mostly, the cost is around double what you think. It should work fine with a 6650 XT or a 1080 Ti (Nvidia style). If that fits your budget, you can probably find a much better CPU. The price gap between the 4500 and 5600 should be only about 20-30 euros, and the 5600 is significantly faster—roughly 20% quicker. With an AM4 board you're looking at around 100 euros, and a 32GB RAM package usually costs between 60-80 euros depending on the seller or location, bringing your total to roughly 300 euros.
The FX 8300 on stock 3.3GHz causes significant strain on the 1070 you own. Upgrading the CPU will make your GPU feel more powerful. For a budget of 500€ and considering average European prices (slightly cheaper than Croatian rates), here are some options:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 5500, or 5600 (non-G, non-X); the 5600 is recommended // 100-150€
- A B450 motherboard with VRM coolers (e.g., MSI Tomahawk) or a B550 board // 100-200€
- Two 8GB DDR4 modules with at least 3200 CL16 speeds (3600 is preferable) // 50-80€
- One tower cooler with a 120mm fan and multiple heatpipes // 30-50€
- If your PSU is over 5 years old, replace it too.
Power supply: 650W, 80+Gold, modular – around 80-120€
