I’m evaluating CPU options for your setup with a Ryzen 5 3500G, 5500XT graphics, and 16GB RAM. You have a $400 budget for an upgrade. Based on performance needs for games like Apex Legends and video rendering in Blender, you’ll want a solid mid-range processor. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D or a similar high-end model would fit well within your budget while delivering strong multitasking and gaming capabilities.

Based on your current setup, the 5600/5600X would be the optimal choice. The two options perform similarly, so choose the one that offers better value or lower cost.

Considering the slight overspend and purchasing a Ryzen 7 5800X could be worthwhile depending on your needs.

The 5800X/5700X works fine, but it's not typically a chip that delivers huge performance gains. If you really want the extra cores, consider spending a bit more on a 5900X or 12700F—both are faster and don’t cost much more—or invest the savings into a better GPU like an RTX 1070 or RX 6600 XT.
