Thanks for the info, but regarding the 3100 model, I assume I might have to flash my BIOS if it's a newer generation.

3100 offers a comparable feel, making it a viable choice. However, a BIOS update will be necessary.

The 1600 AF on Alza costs £99, but it's unclear if it's the original release or a later version. The details about whether it's first-gen aren't clear from what you provided.

The Ryzen 5 1600 12nm, also called the "1600 AF," employs the 12nm Zen+ design, unlike the Ryzen 5 1600 14nm which uses the initial generation 14nm Zen architecture. This makes it quite similar to the Ryzen 5 2600, just with a marginally slower clock speed. It adheres to the same BIOS compatibility standards. The "AF" designation comes from the product code where AF stands in place of AE as an identifier, while the full code remains unchanged. If you see an "AFBOX" version rather than an "AEBOX," that's the quicker variant.

That sounds reasonable. Just confirming if the Ryzen 5 1600 12nm fits your motherboard without needing a BIOS update.
