Upgrade your CPU for better performance.
You're limited to Zen 2 with X370 or B350 boards, and if you want gaming upgrades, a 3600XT (or even the standard 3600) offers a solid step forward from the 1700X. Even in multi-threaded work, it performs comparably to the 1700X thanks to its superior single-core speed.
I’m considering a mini Itx B450 Aorus board. Ideally, I’d keep it with eight cores since next-gen consoles are moving that way. I want to secure my next chip for at least two to three years, and I think eight cores is the best choice right now. The 3600 seems like an option, but I’m leaning toward eight cores for reliability.
As mentioned before, hold off on the Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000 Series) — your board is likely to handle those processors well, offering a significant boost. A 4700 (X) would make a great enhancement.
I expect AMD will be eager to capitalize on the holiday period, likely unveiling Zen3 in late August or early September, with a possible release in September or October. This remains just a guess, but since your current processor is strong, you might be able to hold off for a few months.
