I've been using an R5 1600 since December 2017 and it has worked great for me. Now I'm planning to switch to an R7 5700X and have some concerns. First, can I use the original cooler from the 1600? Second, what advice do you have before upgrading the BIOS? The motherboard in question is a Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3.

Is it the wraith spire? If yes, you should be fine, though stealth might still work well for gaming.

You're agreeing to sacrifice some performance, right? 3) It looks like your current CPU remains compatible with the newest BIOS.

I believe it's the spire, and the stealth feature likely appeared with the R3 version. That sounds good to me!

Previous versions included a copper-core spire, though it was modified later in the build. A decent tower cooler would always outperform the spire, but for gaming performance there should be no issues.

It seems you checked a used Wraith prism for $20 and wondered if it would fit your setup. You mentioned your PSU is only 550W and don’t intend to overclock. You’re considering updating the BIOS now so it works smoothly with your 1600 chipset, and you’re glad someone found this information.

I possibly have the copper core because I purchased it at the same time it was released, though I can't recall now. Regarding the tower cooler, I discovered a wraith prism on the used market for $20, which is roughly half the cost of an aftermarket version in my country. What impact could this prism have on performance?

I’d go with that option then—it should work well. The stealth offers a solid "adequate" cooling solution for what AMD might include in the package. It tends to run a bit warm, but usually gets the job done. It’s acceptable for lower-power processors, though it may throttle on higher-end models. The original spire provides decent airflow and can manage any 65-watt CPU. Noise levels depend on the fans on both stealth and spire. The prism model stands out, delivering strong performance and coming with higher-end CPUs. It performs as effectively as an entry-level tower cooler.

You'd pick the 40$ be quiet pure rock 2 silver for its better value and performance.

If I were moving up from the spire, I'd obtain the unmatched killer.
