Since I can't modify my Windows version, it seems that's the core problem, though it also prevents any upgrades... THANKS BILL

I never upgraded from 7 to 10, just to 8.1. If you face issues, don't attempt an upgrade until you resolve the main problems.

The idea I was expressing. A fresh setup usually fixes the issue. However, Microsoft hasn’t consistently improved existing versions. If it doesn’t update properly, you might face problems. It could be a small fix, or it might be a corrupted Windows install that prevents Windows 10 from installing. Just because your system runs well doesn’t guarantee everything is correct. If your current 8.1 version is fairly outdated, managing updates and registry changes can be messy. Many programs add data to the registry during installation. When you uninstall, not all entries are removed, which can lead to a bloated registry and potential conflicts. Over time, this buildup can cause problems. I remember a friend whose user account info was stored in a corrupted part of the registry. He had to reinstall because he couldn’t log into Windows XP. Even after an upgrade, things didn’t always work perfectly. When I moved from Windows 7 to 10, it went smoothly at first, but later I faced issues like broken OneDrive integration and driver problems. So a clean install can help, but it’s not a guaranteed fix.
