Upgrade Windows 10 to force a BIOS update for your X570 Aorus master. (Debug Code E6 for X570 Aorus Master)
I’ve set all updates off by default, but they always reset when you install them. Past problems included failed installs and the need to reinstall Windows, which was frustrating. Recently, I had to restart my PC, but updates remained blocked until mid-November. After a restart, it showed up with “Windows Update %” and I heard a loud noise. Once I reached the BIOS splash screen, I checked my phone on Twitter while it loaded—usually it takes about 10 seconds from boot to start, but after roughly 30 seconds it stayed. I pressed Caps Lock and Num Lock to see if my keyboard froze, but it wasn’t. There was an error code: E6. It’s a universal code for Aorus boards, which means many issues. After some research, I found that a quick bios update might help. Updating to the latest version with Windows 11 support (F30) resolved the problem.
TL;DR: Windows forcing updates keeps me stuck, and E6 is a big deal. Microsoft hasn’t been held accountable for this. This is really annoying.
The issue stems from Windows 11 not loading properly, which is why the Preparation update for Windows 10 was introduced. TPM was disabled in the BIOS, preventing that problem. Microsoft is actively encouraging upgrades, but I anticipate frequent prompts asking users to upgrade for better performance. This month will be hectic as people try to fix their computers due to these mandatory updates.
Pushing updates on a product that may harm your experience without offering a real option. I recall Windows 7-8.1 forced updates often bricked many systems, as well as versions from 8.1 to 10. It’s different when the update is presented as a choice—like getting new features or security patches—compared to a mandatory security fix or major functionality change. However, the fact that this update is specifically for Windows 11 and I’ve already chosen not to upgrade feels frustrating. If I didn’t have a laptop ID, I’d be stuck until I obtained the BIOS file elsewhere. I always prefer having control over updates for my own devices and software. When that control is removed and an update is forced without warning, it locks me out and creates problems. That should be addressed as an issue. They shouldn’t automatically apply these changes; doing so often leads to more complications.
Instead of formal statutes, focus on a civil dispute. Assemble a group of individuals facing similar issues and pursue a collective lawsuit against the responsible parties.
