Vulkan is set to be integrated into Windows, and will likely remain a key technology for developers targeting the platform. It is expected to gain traction among those creating games with Linux compatibility. DirectX 12 is exclusive to Windows 10, whereas Vulkan supports multiple platforms including Linux, Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10. Historically, developers often preferred DirectX over OpenGL, but this trend has shifted as performance improvements became more OS-agnostic, leaving many Windows users without access to newer features.

It's important to highlight that Valve with Source 2, Epic with Unreal 4, DICE with Frostbite, and Unity have all committed to back Vulkan. This indicates that nearly all upcoming Windows titles will gain Vulkan capabilities simply through their development engines. Cross-platform creators will find a strong motivation to adopt Vulkan. I believe Star Citizen is reportedly receiving both DirectX 12 and Vulkan support, while Crytek is integrating Vulkan into their engine. The Godot game engine is also set to support Vulkan. Overall, virtually everyone is backing Vulkan.
