I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro right now and have upgraded to Windows 10 Reserved. I'm curious about the future release versions. Have people started getting a premium Pro edition, or is everyone receiving the standard free version? Do you need to spend money for a better option?

You'll receive the pro version. I believed Linus discussed this in a WAN presentation recently. With an 8.1 enterprise setup, you'll get the full features.

You don't receive anything since the 8.1 Enterprise version includes a Volume Licence. With a VL you'll also get Software Assurance, likely. SA always provides the newest release, so Enterprise isn't needed because they would obtain it regardless.

You own the highest-priced version but are missing the update?

You're highly likely to have copied it. VL agreements are intended for businesses, which explains the edition name.

I noticed it on the WAN but I'm not sure why. Can you clarify?

The upgrade applies only to users with a valid Windows 7 or 8.1 license. We can't confirm whether Microsoft verifies authenticity (WGA was removed in Windows 8), but those who alter system files won't qualify.
